Percy Harvin (hip) to have surgery on Thursday
Posted: 30 Jul 2013 06:30 PM PDT
Dealing with a slight tear in his labrum, Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin spent today in New York City to get a second opinion on his injury.
And that second opinion has led to a decision to have surgery.
when everything is goin good sometimes life throw u a curve ball... sorry to half to report that my injury will require surgery...
— Percy Harvin (@Percy_Harvin) July 30, 2013Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Harvin will have his surgery on Thursday and the estimated timetable for Harvin to return is three to four months.
The Seahawks have their bye in Week 12 (see schedule) as they play Harvin's former team on November 17th and then the Saints on Monday, December 2nd.
So unless his recovery is closer to three months, it's most likely that he returns after the team's bye.
In addition to the Harvin news, Sidney Rice, the team's No. 2 receiver, is in Switzerland getting a knee treatment. Coach Pete Carroll is optimistic, though, that Rice won't miss any (even preseason) games.
Assuming that Rice's European vacation goes as well as Carroll suggests, Harvin's injury boosts the fantasy value of Rice and Golden Tate and makes Doug Baldwin draftable in deeper leagues.
In addition to moving Harvin down (obviously) in my fantasy rankings, I will drop Russell Wilson a couple of spots from No. 7 to No. 10 as well.
Fantasy Football Mock Draft Per Day (7/30/13): 12 Teams, No. 11 Pick, Standard Scoring
Posted: 30 Jul 2013 04:25 PM PDT
Last preseason, we conducted one fantasy football mock draft per day using a mock draft simulator powered by FantasyPros.
Having begun our 2013 series of drafts on June 1st, we will continue to post our draft results and comments up until the start of the 2013 season on September 5th.
We will track all of the mocks here on this centralized page.
Like last year, I will vary the size of the league, the scoring format and draft slot and then post the results of my team with comments.
For today's mock, it is a 12-team standard-scoring mock and I had the No. 11 pick. The league starts one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, one flex, one kicker and one team defense.
Here are my picks:
1.11 - Trent Richardson, RB, Cleveland Browns: Slowed by injuries (knee/ribs) in his rookie season, T-Rich still managed to finish among top 11 RBs in fantasy points last year and should have a much better season in 2013. 2.02 - Jimmy Graham, TE, New Orleans Saints: After waiting on TE in almost all of these mocks, I've drafted Graham or Rob Gronkowski now in three consecutive mocks. 3.11 - Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints: One of the league's most underrated fantasy receivers, Colston has averaged a stat line of 79/1098/8 over the past four years. 4.02 - Frank Gore, RB, San Francisco 49ers: Gore has back-to-back 1,200-yard rushing seasons and the 49ers have one of the elite offensive lines. 5.11 - Pierre Garcon, WR, Washington Redskins: Provided he can stay healthy, Garcon should have the best season of his career as opposing defenses try to slow down the Redskins' rushing attack. 6.02 - Shane Vereen, RB, New England Patriots: Vereen would have seen a bump in touches with the departure of Danny Woodhead. With the release of Aaron Hernandez and Gronk's injury concerns, Vereen could produce like a RB2 this year. 7.11 - Mark Ingram, RB, New Orleans Saints: Slowed by injuries over his first two seasons, Ingram enters his third season healthier than he's ever been as a pro. 8.02 - Kenny Britt, WR, Tennessee Titans: Entering a walk year, it's possible that the talented receiver stays out of trouble and puts together a big season. 9.11 - Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns: Facing a two-game suspension to start the year, Gordon has the talent to have a breakout year in Norv Turner's vertical passing attack once he returns. 10.02 - Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Cowboys: Romo with the 110th overall pick shows that it pays to wait on drafting your quarterback, especially in leagues that are not deep. 11.11 - Kendall Wright, WR, Tennessee Titans: The only thing that may hold him back in Year 2 is the inaccuracy of his quarterback. 12.02 - Mike Goodson, RB, New York Jets: Goodson provides some running back depth late. 13.11 - Aaron Dobson, WR, New England Patriots: With the turnover at the skill positions in New England, Dobson should have an opportunity for plenty of snaps/targets as a rookie. 14.02 - Denver Broncos D/ST: Almost always, I select the best defense available with my second-to-last pick. 15.11 - Randy Bullock, K, Houston Texans: Almost always, I select the best available kicker with my last pick.- For all picks in the mock draft, click here.
My 2013 fantasy rankings: Quarterbacks - Running Backs - Wide Receivers - Tight Ends

Sidney Rice in Switzerland for knee treatment
Posted: 30 Jul 2013 03:39 PM PDT
Until there is a team in London, it's never a good thing when a player is in Europe in the middle of training camp, but that's where Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice is.
Although he's not in London, Rice is in Switzerland getting a knee treatment according to head coach Pete Carroll (via ESPN 710's Liz Matthews).
That means, that neither of the team's top two wide receivers are in Seattle as Percy Harvin traveled to New York to get a second opinion today on his hip injury and he will now weigh his options.
While Harvin may miss time, perhaps even the season if his injury requires surgery, it appears that Rice won't miss any games — not even in the preseason.
Matthews also tweeted, "Carroll said Rice likely not to miss any games, even preseason. Said will come back with 'fresh legs' and 'even better.'"
Or perhaps this is what is happening (as tweeted by John Boyle of the Everett Herald):
Have we considered the possibility that Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice are in a secret European lab being merged into one super-receiver?
— John Boyle (@johnpboyle) July 30, 2013Based on my current fantasy rankings, three Seahawks receivers are in my top 80 wide receiver rankings: Harvin (25), Rice (41) and Golden Tate (56).
The Tuesday Blitz: News, Notes and Links from Around the NFL
Posted: 30 Jul 2013 04:08 AM PDT
Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks returned to limited practice yesterday, but it was Rueben Randle that "stole the show," per Ebenezer Samuel of the NY Daily News.
Ravens running backs Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce got good news yesterday. The Ravens announced that they have re-signed free-agent fullback Vonta Leach.
Due to the inconsistency of Denarius Moore, Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune writes, "Rod Streater has been the most consistent player and could emerge as the go-to receiver for Flynn and Co. because they're relatively certain he'll come down with the ball."
Josina Anderson tweeted that coach Gary Kubiak said he hopes that Texans running back Arian Foster would be back on the field "midweek something like that."
Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert left practice yesterday on a cart due to an ankle sprain, but he's reportedly "fine."
Considering DeMarco Murray's lack of durability, the Cowboys backup running back could be a top-20 fantasy option for a few weeks at some point each season. Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote the following: "But second-year veteran Lance Dunbar has zoomed past [rookie Joseph Randle] in camp, and third-year player Phillip Tanner has been more consistent. Randle, who couldn't practice in the offseason because of a thumb injury, is battling undrafted rookie Kendial Lawrence for snaps and attention."
Titans first-rounder Chance Warmack reached a deal with the team yesterday and now all first-round picks are under contract.
Cardinals running back Ryan Williams will get a second opinion on his knee, which "flared up" on Sunday as the MRI came back "clean."
Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith continues to outperform incumbent starter Mark Sanchez during camp.
Per Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazzette, Packers rookie running back Jonathan Franklin stood out at the team's first padded practice.
The Dolphins will audition free-agent receiver Laurent Robinson (among others) on Tuesday and Austin Collie is "on their radar," according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb is singing the praises of rookie wide receiver Robert Woods: "Stud. I mean, legitimately a stud. I've bragged on him a lot in the last two days and really through camp. I mean, what I see from him, I've been with some really good rookie receivers. I mean some really good ones."
Since straining his hamstring last week, Ravens guard Kelechi Osemele returned to practice for the first time.
